Trump to Speak with Nigerian, South African Presidents

After his call with Buhari, President Trump also requested and completed a phone call with South Africa's Zuma. It was the first conversation between the two leaders since President Trump's inauguration last month. Across major cities in Nigeria, protests were held decrying hard living conditions amid Nigeria's economic recession.

Confirming the telephone conversation between the two Presidents, the White House Press Secretary and Communications Director, Sean Michael Spicer, in his introduction of Tuesday's White HousePress Briefing, mentioned that Trump spoke with Buhari of Nigeria and Jacob Zuma of South Africa on Monday.

He said President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States and on his cabinet.

Trump, who spoke with Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi back in November, has shown little to no interest in Africa as a candidate over the a year ago or in the first few weeks of his presidency till now.

The two presidents had also discussed the need to work together on multilateral issues as well and, especially, the quest for peace and stability on the African continent.
