Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin defeated American Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs in a unanimous points decision in Madison Square Garden to maintain his unbeaten record and retain his middleweight world titles in NY on Sunday morning (HK time).

Danny Jacobs thought he fought the flawless fight; thought he had done all he needed to do to upset Gennady Golovkin and capture the middleweight championship before 19,939 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Gennady "GGG" Golovkin entered his middleweight title defense against Daniel Jacobs as the boogieman of boxing. Of his 32 fights, 29 were won by KO.

"My goal is all the belts in the middleweight division, " he said after winning 115-112 on two cards, 114-113 on another. "This was my first test at 12 rounds". In doing so by keeping GGG off-balance - Jacobs' periodically switching to a left-handed style was a very effective tactic - and closing with a flourish, He put himself in the mix for another go with Golovkin. "Danny Jacobs is my favorite fighter". That fight, of course, would be against Golden Boy Promotions' and Oscar De La Hoya's prized pupil, Canelo Alvarez. Prior to the fight, Golovkin had scored 23 straight knockouts and was recognized as the most frightening boxer on the planet.

"Golovkin is defending his IBF title, however Jacobs can not acquire the title with a victory because he did not participate in the required IBF same-day weigh-in", said Lindsey Tucker of the IBF. A corner man lifted Gennady Golovkin up into the air.

The Kazakh star retained his WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight titles - but it was far from easy for him. "When I got up I thought this is all he has?" More importantly, one of GGG's greatest virtues is that he punches when his opponents are punching.

A rematch would be the big seller, although the WBC may now order Srikaset to defend against Cuadras as Gonzalez licks his wounds as well as healing from them after suffering a first loss in 47 fights.

Jacobs did well when he fought at a distance and used his jab, while Golovkin did better when he used his jab to set up right hands.
