Iran, Russia to ink numerous cooperation agreements in Rouhani's upcoming visit

President Rouhani, who will be heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, will confer with President Putin and other senior officials on bilateral relations, and topical regional and global issues, the TV said, quoting the Iranian president's deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran for Moscow on Monday for a two-day official visit in Russian Federation, accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Industry, Mines and Trade, Petroleum, Communications, and the Governor of Iran's Central Bank, IRNA reported.

After Iran carried out a ballistic missile test in late January, Trump tweeted that the Islamic Republic has been put "on notice" and moved quickly to issue new sanctions.

President Rouhani is slated to arrive in Moscow on March 27. The president is scheduled to meet senior officials in Moscow including his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Before he departed from Tehran this morning, Rouhani told reporters that he hopes that the cooperation between Iran and Russian Federation in the energy sector will expand.

Rouhani's first official visit to Russian Federation comes as the two Syrian regime supporters push for ways to end the six-year conflict, having done much to marginalise USA influence in peace talks.

Rouhani's economic team is expected to sign approximately a dozen memorandums of understanding during the visit, which will also include talks with Putin on Tuesday. Earlier this month, Rouhani officially announced that he is running for re-election.
