Yahoo, AOL To Merge Into New Company Named 'Oath' After Verizon Acquisition

Verizon has announced that, once it combines the remnants of AOL and Yahoo!, it will get a new name: Oath (yes, as in "oath of office"). It will then unite the internet company with AOL, under the brand of Oath. Marni Walden, AOL's executive vice president and president of product innovation and new businesses will lead the new company.

Citing sources close to the matter, Recode claims that terms of Mayer's departure are still being worked through, however both Yahoo and AOL have declined to comment. The core Web assets that Yahoo is selling to Verizon-its search, e-mail, and content sites-will be merged with another 90s Internet relic, AOL, under Verizon's ever-expanding corporate umbrella. As a united company, there is a new hope for them to rise again after watching a sudden drop in its strategy.

Yahoo in September a year ago announced that hackers in 2014 stole personal data from more than 500 million of its user accounts and in December it admitted to another cyberattack from 2013 affecting more than a billion users.
