Politics pierces the nostalgia at Rock Hall of Fame induction

The Rock Hall inductions are tonight in NY.

But it was Lee who really summed up the feeling of Yes finally being inducted: "It's our great, great privilege and honor to right a bad wrong and finally welcome Yes into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame". Alicia Keys then took the stage for a medley of 2Pac songs, followed by Snoop with YG, Treach of Naughty by Nature and T.I. all taking turns on the mic.

Tributes were also paid on Friday to Chuck Berry, who died in March at age 90 and who was the first person ever to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and Prince, who died of an accidental painkiller overdose in April 2016. It will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on April 29.

After Geddy Lee helped "right a wrong" by inducting Yes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Rush bassist joined his prog-rock heroes onstage for a crushingly loud run-through of "Roundabout". The Englishman said he was happy to be inducted in Brooklyn as the arena was half a mile (less than a kilometer) from the spot of his first sexual experience.

Earlier this week, it was rumored by gossip site TMZ that former Journey lead singer - and Hanford native - Steve Perry would be performing on at least one of the three songs the band was slated to perform during the ceremony: "Lights", "Separate Ways" or "Don't Stop Believin'".

Snoop also acknowledged the late rapper's talent, saying: "When I sat down to gather my thoughts about my late and great, my homie and my brother there's one thought that kept coming back: Tupac was actually really good". The demand angered Perry, who saw it as an attempt to interfere with a personal health decision, and so he chose to leave the band permanently.

Vedder used his speech to discuss climate change and said his daughter was a big fan of Grammy-winning performer Chance the Rapper.

"We're here because of them", he added. "His mom came up to me and she grabbed me, and held me and said, 'You've got to be strong, ' " Snoop said.
