Jackson says that a trade might be best for Carmelo, Knicks

During a press conference Friday, Knicks president Phil Jackson said the team would "like a significant player in return" if it deals Anthony, per ESPN's Ian Begley.

Jackson, however, admitted that Carmelo still holds all the cards in a trade, and it would take some time before such a trade would actually come to fruition.

"We've not been able to win with (Anthony) on the court at this time,"Jackson told reporters during his 50 minute pow-wow with the NY media". Is today just further proof that the Knicks cannot have any nice things, that the day that literally has "good" in the name would be the day when the most unequivocally bad stuff could happen in the 2017 calendar year?

Anthony said earlier this week that he wanted to hear what Jackson has to say before making any decision about his future. You want to get to that territory where you have a chance to win.

"But he likes it here".

"You've got teams going into the playoffs that could be eliminated right away and say that's not good enough, we're not good enough, we gotta go somewhere else,"Jackson said". Jackson said Friday the Knicks did not receive any rational offers before the trade deadline.

Here's Tony Romo In a Dallas Mavericks Uniform
Why is anyone talking about Romo playing basketball? I can't say thank you enough. If you wondered what Tony Romo looks like in a Mavericks uniform, here it is.

"We'll take into account (Anthony's) consideration". The most unfortunate aspect to all of this, besides the Knicks' continued struggles and embarrassment, is that this could have all been avoided if Jackson didn't re-sign Anthony in his first offseason as team president. We're starting to get some players on the court we can do that.

Beyond just the Carmelo Anthony drama, the Knicks had some very public issues this season.

Jackson said he met with Anthony on Thursday. Anthony has a lot more money remaining on his deal ($54 million), making this option a lot harder to swallow for NY.

Jackson has drawn a ton of criticism for his handling of the Anthony situation over the past year, and this will only add more fodder to that.

At the end of the day, Jackson has 12 rings and Carmelo has none. He's an elite scorer.

"I think there's disconnect sometimes with this team and I think there was some rebelliousness with this team that created some of the discord during the year. I think it's my job to make sure that I sit down with the coaches, Scott, everybody and ask them what do they think went wrong there".
